Basically it’s a space gun for your iPhone that uses a very clever App and augmented reality from your phone’s camera to take you into a space war you’ll love to bits. Take your iPhone, download the App ‘apptoyz alien attack (available free on iTunes) slot it into the gun and then run round the room going ‘oh my god this is amazing’ for a bit. On your camera’s screen you will see whatever your camera sees (your room obviously) as well as a high tech sight complete with a sniper’s cross hair, game data and a radar screen.

The appBlaster utilizes the accelerometer of your iPhone/iPod touch so the game rotates and moves as you do. Suddenly aliens will start to appear from around the room, and they’re out to get you. You have to blast away at them, spinning around to find the cheeky ones sneaking up behind you (check your radar). When you’re out of ammo, simply flick the gun up and it reloads (which is quite sexy).

The result is an immersive game that requires quick reactions and frantic firing! There are two triggers, the rear fires lasers at the little critters as they swarm from your ceiling, the cupboards, the dog, you name it, and the front fires more powerful missiles (but you only get a few, so use sparingly). Never before has the quote “they’re coming out of the goddamn walls!” been so apt or apped.

Don’t worry if you have an iPod Touch Gen 4 as the game works just as well. The gun is lightweight and the shoulder stock can be removed to give you a shorter gun depending on your preference. Quite definitely the best toy and App combo invented to date, the makers are already developing more Apps to ensure that you’ll never have time to go to work again.
